Three things are required to have an account. Everything else is optional, and stays optional — you can use MAOK without ever adding it.
Your name
RequiredSo people know whose kindness they are reading about.
Anyone who can see your posts
Your email address
RequiredTo sign you in and let you recover your account.
MAOK only — never shown on your profile
Your password
RequiredTo protect your account.
Nobody — stored scrambled, and we cannot read it
Photo, bio and location
OptionalHelps people in your communities get to know you.
Follows your profile visibility setting
Acts of kindness and journal entries
OptionalThis is the record of what you have shared.
The audience you choose on each post — private entries stay with you
Communities you join
OptionalTo show you relevant posts.
Other members of that community
When you post anonymously, your name and photo are not shown on that post. The content, tags and any photo you attach are still visible to the audience you chose, and MAOK still knows the post is yours — so that we can act on reports and keep people safe. Anonymity hides you from other members, not from moderation.
Your posts and journal entries stay until you delete them or close your account. Closing your account removes your profile and your content.
To ask what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, contact us from Settings. We will confirm within a reasonable period.
